Late night blossoms

*Amy Beth*

(Chapter 10)

Pulling a big box out of the back of my vehicle, I hand it to David before grabbing the last one for myself.

Looking over to him, I wonder how long he will be staying. “Hey, do you think this will be permanent, or just for the summer. It will be nice to have someone else in the house again. So, don’t feel obligated to leave when school starts.”

Going quiet for a moment, he thinks to himself before answering. “Maybe permanent, let’s see how it goes the summer, and we’ll discuss it then.”

Knowing that is probably a good decision, I still hope his company keeps in the end. “Seems like a plan,” I tell him with a small smile.

Putting his stuff in the room across the hall from my own, I look around to all the boxes. Glad to see the place getting good use again.

Before Steph's absence, it was used for her craft studio. She used to make the most beautiful things sometimes. I still sleep with the quilt she made me for our fourth anniversary, she used all of my old fandom shirts.

“So, what do you want for supper tonight?” I ask him for his opinion once i am out of my thoughts.

“Hmmm, maybe we can order from the joint we saw a few blocks away? We wouldn’t have to leave, and could smoke while it’s on the way. You know so we're hungry.” He suggests, giving me a joking grin.

Taking his offer, “I’m up for any plan that requires being lazy, and just smoking.” I head for the book of numbers, and search the edi-store’s numeric signal.

“Got it,” I keep my finger on the spot as to not loose it when bringing it to him. “What do you want to order?”

He ponders for a moment, looking to the floor as he often does when thinking. “Maybe get a few sides, and a medium pissa? We can stay up all night like we use to on weekends.” His tone, a kind that has excitement held within.

Enjoying the proposition, I call and order. When done, I find David with two ekits already rolled. “What do you suggest we watch?” I ask before grabbing the controller. Phlipping it on as I take my seat.

“Something funny,” he tells me as he lights up. Taking a few hits before passing it.

I choose one of my favorites, Chix and Charles. “Have you seen this one before?” I ask knowing he has seen a few of this series before.

“I’ve seen the last two, but never the first.” He tells me as I hand him the ekit back. “You’ll like it, the first one is the best.”

In a sleepy haze, I get up to use the bathroom. Tripping over Jebb when exiting my room. “Dude, not cool.” I tell him after I get my placing.

Once done, I wash my hands in the sink. Lifting my head, I jump at the sight in the mirror. A little girl with red hair and familiar soft blue eyes, stands behind me. I turn, no one is there. Yet, there she is standing in the mirror still.

Shards of a memory come to me. Instead of being scared, I feel remorseful. I feel as if I need to save her, but from what. She mouths something, but I can’t make it out.

I touch the mirror tentatively on her image, “What is it you are saying little one?” My words soft as to not wake David.

“Leave now,” I hear a faint whisper in my ear before her image morphs into something of horror. A black twisted mass stands feet above me, and to my terror, it is still there when I turn around.

I get a feeling of sickness through my whole body. Only able to stand there, petrified of the abyss in front of me. Wanting to scream, but any noise I make cuts out passed my lips. Looking up, everything goes dark before I can see the face of my danger.
